Know Your Roofline

A quick guide to the terms we use when we design your lighting — so you know exactly what you're getting.

Roof Ridge

The horizontal peak where two roof slopes meet at the top. Ridge lighting runs along this high line and is the classic "outline the top of the house" look — the foundation of our Ridge package.

Roof Gable

The triangular end wall of a pitched roof. Gable lighting follows the angled lines of that triangle so the architecture pops from the street — the heart of our Gable package for two-story homes.

Roof Edge / Eave

The lower outer edge of the roof (the drip edge or eave line). Edge lighting runs along the perimeter you see from the street and gives a clean, finished outline on single-story and ranch homes.

Projected Costs for 125 Feet

  • Single-Story Home (Easy Access): $250 – $375 ($2.00 – $3.00/ft)
  • Two-Story Home or Steep Roof: $450 – $625 ($3.50 – $5.00/ft)
  • Minimum Service Fees: Many dedicated light installation companies have a flat minimum service fee of $150 to $300 just to deploy a truck and crew to your home, regardless of how short the strand is.
Labor Only

Installation Using Your Own Lights

Market rate: $3 – $4 per linear foot

For a standard ranch or single-story front roofline. Final price depends on gables, peaks, and access. You supply the lights; we handle the professional install.

⚠️ Crucial Rules for "Hang Your Own" Lights

If you want to use your own lights, most professional companies enforce strict requirements before they will climb the ladder:

  1. Commercial-Grade Only: Most high-end holiday light companies will only install your strands if they are commercial-grade bulk wire (like the C9 custom-cut strands). They routinely refuse to hang cheap, tangled retail box store strings because retail strands lack safety standardizations and are prone to blowing fuses mid-season.
  2. No Warranties on Your Gear: If a bulb burns out, a clip snaps, or a fuse blows two weeks after installation, a professional company will generally charge a separate service call fee ($75–$150) to come back out and fix it. When you use their leased lights, mid-season maintenance is normally included for free.
  3. Takedown is Usually Extra: Labor-only quotes often only cover putting the lights up. If you want them taken down in January, expect an additional $100 to $200 flat fee.

These estimates map directly to our full packages below. Edge-only and Starter work fall under the Ridge package. Larger two-story and multi-section homes move into Gable and Estate.

Designed for larger properties and more complex architecture. We plan the lighting as a complete outdoor experience so the whole place feels intentional and impressive after dark.
